Practical support to keep you grounded for when life feels anything but steady

Welcome to Solid Ground Therapy

Online and Telephone Counselling in Shildon for adults, young people and children

I'm Nicola Hymers, a BACP registered therapist, and I've created Solid Ground Therapy as a warm, accepting space where we can work together to navigate whatever challenges you're facing.

If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply need a listening ear, I'm here for you. I offer integrative counselling for adults, young people, and children. Whether you prefer online sessions or telephone calls, I'm here to support you. My approach is adaptable, shaped to fit your individual needs and situation. Perhaps you're struggling with anxiety, working through trauma, or just trying to make sense of things – whatever it is, we'll find a way forward that works for you.

Every person's journey is unique, and I'm committed to walking alongside you, providing the support you need to find your footing and move towards a place of greater understanding and well-being. Let's take that first step together.

What is Counselling?

Counselling is a collaborative process where we work together to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe, confidential environment.

In our sessions, I provide you with a safe, confidential space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings without judgment.

My role isn't to "fix" you, but to guide you towards discovering your own answers. Together, we'll examine your life from fresh perspectives, uncovering insights that may have been hidden.

Remember, you're the expert on your own life. My job is to help you tap into your inner wisdom and strengths, facilitating your journey towards greater self-awareness and personal development.

What Counselling Can Offer You

Counselling provides you with the time and space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences, leading to greater self-awareness and personal growth. Through our sessions, you can gain valuable insights, develop coping strategies, and work towards positive change in your life. I can support you with a wide range of issues, including:

Anxiety and stress management

Depression and low mood

Relationship difficulties

Trauma and PTSD

Grief and loss

Self-esteem and confidence issues

Life transitions and personal development

Work-related stress

Family conflicts

Whether you're seeking support for a specific challenge or looking for personal growth, my integrative approach allows us to tailor our sessions to your unique needs. Together, we can work towards helping you lead a more fulfilling, balanced life.

Counselling for Young People and Children

Growing up can be challenging, whether you're a child navigating school and family life or a young adult facing the pressures of adolescence and early adulthood. I offer tailored counselling for young people and children, creating a safe, non-judgmental space where they can express themselves freely. For children, I use play therapy and age-appropriate techniques to address issues like bullying, family changes, or school stress. For adolescents and young adults, we might explore academic pressure, relationships, identity questions, or mental health concerns like anxiety and depression. My goal is to help young clients develop emotional literacy, build self-esteem, and acquire coping skills to navigate their unique challenges with confidence. Parents are involved in the process for younger children, gaining insights to support their child's emotional well-being.
